Hi Dawn,
Another nice article.
As far as pizza, I think Windsor pizza is overrated. It’s different to someone from outside, but as a pizza afficiano who has been eating Windsor-style pizza for over 20 years, I can tell you that they are all the same; Capri, Antonino’s, Arcata, Naples, all the same sauce, same toppings, same dough.
HOWEVER…
There are some in Windsor that are outstanding in their field.
Wood-fired pizza at Big Tony’s (in your neck of the woods) is VERY good.
Traditional pizza from Sam’s near the university is good.
But the best pizza in town can be got from La Guardia Restauant on Pitt St downtown. Bar none.
But for a city the size of Windsor to have the pizza reputation it does, then three good pizza joints is less than stellar.

Interesting that the previous commenter wrote that many windsor pizza’s are similar. It may be due to many of the founders of Capri, Naples etc… having been brought into the business at Volcano Restaurant and pizza on 157 Wyandotte where Jade Restaurant is currently. http://www.windsor-communities.com/italian-business-vrestaurant.php . Sure they may be similar in some ways but similarly great!
Vito’s also has a great woodfired pizza, for other great itailian I recommend Nico’s, Enzo’s and my personal favorite, Toscana on Dougall and Cabana.

Thanks for that piece of history, Mark – how interesting! I love stuff like that. Thanks, too, for the recommendations. I can see we’re going to be dining out a LOT in the next while!
